Otowi peak hike

We hiked up to a local peak last week when the weather was unseasonably warm and gorgeous; Otowi peak is only a dozen miles or so from our house, next to the Rio Grande. We drove out to the trailhead, and hiked up a wash to where a very skinny and steep goat track heads up the edge of the mesa, thence across the flat mesa-top to another scramble up the remnants of the lava cone that is Otowi.

Excellent views were had in all directions! We were clued in to a cool volcanic vent by a group of older guys who were out for the same hike; they made it up only a little slower than us. I hope we're doing as well in a decade or two!

Anna, of couse, had to explore the vent. It goes down a long way; we'll have to come back with a rope and appropriate gear to see if we can get in a little further.
